The Hunter Boots company, makers of the famed Hunter wellies, has just announced profits for the year of £4.1m for 2009. The rubber boot company saw turnover rise 41% to £25.7m. The wellies were made in Edinburgh, Scotland up until 2008 when manufacturing was moved to where else but China.
The company began life as the North British Rubber Company in 1856. Here are some other facts about Hunters:
- The most popular size for their wellies is 5-6
- 1m pairs of Hunters were sold in 2009
- In Britain, the most popular colour is green
- But in Scandinavia black is the most popular colour
- For trench soldiers in WW1 Hunter made 1.19m pairs of boots.
Hunter remain a firm favourite with old and young, establishment and celebs. Prince Charles is often captured on camera in his whilst out in the countryside and stars such as Pixie Lott (pictured) are often seen sporting theirs, along with their bare legs, at summer music festivals up and down the country.
